HOW TO GET TO PHILLIP ISLAND?

Phillip island is located 140 km from Melbourne and surprisingly, it’s linked by a public transport network. Why is it such a surprise? Mainly because travelling in Australia without a car is almost impossible. Australia is a huge country, even bigger than all of Europe and honestly, there are very few tourist places that can be visited without a car. Having said that, is it a good idea to use public transport to get to Phillip Island or is it better to choose a car? In this blog post, I’m going to discuss pros and cons of both options. CAR
Driving is the easiest way to get to Phillip Island. If you don’t have your own car, you may be interested in renting one. There are some amazing places to see, they are quite spread though, and I reckon you don’t want to miss out on top things to do on Phillip Island, right? The truth is that exploring the island in the car is super convenient. You will easily get where you want, and you will also save plenty of time. It takes only 1,5 hours to get to Phillip Island from Melbourne by car, and it’s definitely the best way to get around.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
You can also get to Phillip Island from Melbourne with public transport. There are two connections, both of them require a change. It takes around 2 – 3 hours to get to Phillip Island using public transport. Don’t forget that you need to get around somehow, and it may be difficult to do explore the island without a car. CONNECTION 1 – V/Line bus that goes from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne to Koo Wee Rup. This journey requires a change of bus at Koo Wee Rup for another V/Line bus that goes to Phillip Island. The bus stops in a few places along the way. The ticket fare is AUD 15,80 one way.
CONNECTION 2 – Suburban train from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne to Dandenong. This journey requires a change in Dandenong for a V/Line bus to Phillip Island. The ticket fare is AUD 15,80 one way.
