This is definitely one of the most rewarding walks in Cradle Mountain–Lake St Clair National Park, and an excellent base for exploring the Acropolis, and the Labyrinth Plateau. Did you skip it on the Overland Track too? Don't you worry! Pine Valley can be accessed from Lake St Clair, and done as an overnight trip.

FACTS ABOUT TASMANIA
I'm not going to lie. Tasmania has a very special place in my heart. I went there for the first time in October 2021, and was only meant to stay for a month. CAN YOU WALK THE OVERLAND TRACK FOR FREE?
The answer is no! Even if you decide to do the Overland Track off-season, when the permit is free, you still need to hold a current national park pass. What if you want to experience the Overland Track during the summer season, but you can't afford it? Interestingly enough, you can get on the Overland Track without paying the booking fee, and do a day or two-day hike instead. Check out the Overland Track alternatives.

In fact, I wouldn't really change much if I had an opportunity to do so. I wasn't lacking any gear, and most of the things I brought on this hike were used at least once. Here you can find my full Western Arthurs Traverse gear list.
