Jurien Bay is a perfect long weekend escape from Perth. West Aussies truly love this place! What can you expect here? Long, sandy beaches, pristine nature, and some thrilling activities such as swimming with sea lions. How cool is that? It doesn’t matter if you live in Perth or travelling around Western Australia. Jurien Bay is a place you should definitely visit, even for a day. In this blog post, I’m going to share with you top things to do in Jurien Bay. This is one of the best places to visit in Western Australia. Let’s get started!
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?
Jurien Bay in located 220 km north of Perth in Western Australia. Summer in Australia is a perfect time to visit this place. A daytime temperature average of 30°C is expected. Australia’s winter is much colder and can be quite windy. The real feel temperature during this time is around 10°C. Jurien Bay has standard accommodation, as well as campgrounds. Check out Sandy Cape Recreation Park if you are looking for a campsite next to the beach. Before you go, make sure to read about the top things to do in Cervantes too.
WHAT ARE THE TOP THINGS TO DO?
These are the top things to do in Jurien Bay in Western Australia. Number one is swimming with sea lions. Jumping into the water with those cute creatures is such a memorable experience. Absolutely unforgettable! Number two is Lesueur National Park. This location is not popular at all, and at the same time, extremely beautiful. Sandy Cape is another place worth a visit. Who’s up for gorgeous beaches, turquoise water and sandboarding? Good news is that a 4WD car is not necessary to access all those places.
SWIMMING WITH SEA LIONS
These friendly and playful creatures spend most of their time in the water, looking for food. You can also spot them chilling on the beach in Jurien Bay Marine Park. Sea lions are very keen to interact with people in the water. So why don’t you take this opportunity to swim with them? If you are a confident swimmer and want to observe sea lions in their natural habitat, book a tour with one of the operators in Jurien Bay. I joined Turquoise Safaris – Sea Lion Tours, and was super happy about my choice. Pricing for the 3 hour tour is 115 AUD for an adult. It includes snorkel equipment, snacks and drinks. You will be also accompanied by a guide. Booking is essential. This is definitely one of the top things to do in Jurien Bay in Western Australia.
LESUEUR NATIONAL PARK
Unpopular, but extremely beautiful. This is how I remember Lesueur National Park. There are two walking tracks, Yued Ponar Trail and Lesueur Trail. Each of them has 6 km, so if you like hiking, I’m sure you can do both on the same day. Yued Ponar Trail is definitely my favourite. I didn’t expect this place to be that charming. Marvellous landscape and total silence. Chances that you will come across another human are rather low. I’m not sure why Lesueur National Park is not popular at all, but it doesn’t really matter. A day entry fee to the national park is AUD 15 for a vehicle. A purchase of a periodic pass is a good idea, if you plan to visit more national parks in Western Australia. It will help you save some money. Don’t skip this one!

Sandy Cape is absolutely gorgeous! A perfect spot to chill out on the beach, swim in the ocean, and do a little bit of snorkelling. Sandboarding is also very popular here. Have you ever tried that? You will definitely spot children, as well as adults, running up the sand dunes and waiting for their turn to slide down. What a fun! No need to have your own sandboard, you can hire it here. If you are looking for a campsite in this area, check out Sandy Cape Recreation Park located in a beautiful scenery, close to the beach. This campground is well-structured. It has showers, toilets and a camping kitchen. The camping fee is AUD 20 per night for an adult. Booking is not possible. A first come, first served rule applies. I’m sure you will love it!
